Light Bulbs & Fluorescent Tubes
Co-op Homes and the majority of our landlords are not responsible for replacing any light bulbs in your home (unless they are in a shared, communal area). This is a task you will need to undertake yourself. Before you go to the store to buy a replacement it will be best to familiarise yourself with the fitting you need. Generally, the size and code of the bulb is printed on the old one and you should
make a note of this or take the old bulb to the shop with you.
Traditional incandescent light bulbs can be replaced with low energy equivalents with the same fittings. LED versions are also now commonly available in
supermarkets and online, and although they cost more to buy at the outset, they will last approximately 25 times longer and use 84% less energy.
Fluorescent tubes normally found in kitchens are different lengths and thicknesses, so you will need to remove the old one to check and make a note of
the code before buying a new one. This can also sometimes be found on a label inside the light fitting itself. It can be awkward to replace this alone due to the length of the tube, so we suggest you ask a friend or neighbour to help you before you start and think safety first. YouTube have a multitude of videos that give step by step instructions on how to replace lighting tubes. An easy to follow example
can be found here.
